ROAD REPORT: JUNE 2012
June 10: Portland, OR
After the workshop we arrived in Portland just in time for sound check at the beautiful Alberta Rose Theatre. It’s one of those little jewel box theaters with great acoustics and a nice big stage. I designed a set list that would take full advantage of the space between the notes that was afforded us with the big, open sound we got in that room. When I’m out on the road, and finally on stage each day, I try to forget about the finances, the mounting tour expenses, and the amount of “butts in the seats” needed to make it a money making endeavor. I really try to forget all that and simply enjoy the playing, the camaraderie of my good friends and the sheer joy of hearing the sound of our music in the air. Tonight was one of those nights. We didn’t do that well in attendance but the place was so enjoyable to play we’ll definitely be back.

Some of the best gigs I can remember doing had just a handful of people there…
Carl that was an amazing show last night, mangled finger and all. We may have been a small crowd but very enthusiastic indeed. I brought my friend out who was not familiar with you except for seeing your name in guitar publications and he may now be your biggest fan.
Dave and Walfredo were spectacular beyond expectation and yes the sound in that venue was amazing. If any one reading this is on the fence about going to one of your upcoming shows. I’ll make it easy for them. JUST GO!!! Thanks for coming to Portland.
Carl, thanks for an excellent show! Dave and Walfredo knocked it out of the park with you. The sound was terrific and despite your mangled pinkie, you gave a fine performance to a small but eager crowd. Every one of us really appreciated it!
I spoke afterward with Dave (I’m the bassist who built my own Class D amp…we discussed it briefly) and that was one of the pleasures of a small show. It was great to be able to chat with other musicians about our beloved craft.
Don’t let the small crowd discourage you; I’ll definitely come to the show again if you choose to play again! Thanks for the music, my good man.
Hi Carl,
sounds like you guys are doing some great shows, any plans on coming down under to Australia;-)
When you finish your tour is there any chance of doing a post about your amp set up, it looks amazing and I would love to get your insights as to how you have decided on the amps you use.
Thanks
